MOUNIRA LALLALI BIOGRAPHY
''Métal repoussé'' technique
Mounira LALLALI is an Algerian national, born in Tunisia in 1952. Her Artistic trip started in Algiers at the National School of Fine Arts in 1971, where she discovered the beauty and the richness of the Islamic heritage. Few years after, she has been in France in order to improve her artistic knowledge and enrich her own experience in the area of her interest. Therefore, she has been at the National School of Fine Arts of Metz then Avignon where she obtained her Art degree on 1976. Hence, she discovered another culture with other traditions. So, she spent many years exploring the different traditions in the world and finally, came to understand that even if cultures and traditions over the world are different, they still express the same relationship between man and his universe.
Devoting her life to leave a legacy of the most beautiful aspects of her own culture, Mounira LALLALI has not only been autodidact in the ''métal repoussé'' technique, but she opted for it as a way to express and to tell the story of the Arab and Islamic Art in all his components.
''There is so much to achieve in the field of ''Métal repoussé'' and Arab and Islamic culture as part of the universal patrimony. Up to day, my work is just the beginning of gathering such great and precious heritage. My hope is that my work will represent more than just an education for the eyes and mind, I would like the viewer to look not at it as a personal expression of an individual artist but as an artist's particular evocation of a universal principal. In such way, my work will serve as a message of love and peace in order to change the incorrect picture that the other nations of the world have about Islam and so that bridges of cultural cooperation may be built between the Islamic countries and the other nations over the world. This will be my humble contribution to that''
Since, she managed herself to show in a unique style and contemporary fashion, the amazing aspects of her own culture: the Arab and Islamic One. She has immersed herself in sourcing and collecting examples of the work of masters in calligraphy, biomorphic and geometric forms, Architecture, jewelry and so many other subjects relating to knowledge, love, beauty and peace.
During her artistic trip, she held several national and international exhibitions winning wide recognition for her work both at home and abroad. Her first exhibition was held at Algiers in 1984 where she got the national prize of plastic arts, after that she has been exhibiting in many other capitals so as Paris, London, Bruxelles, and Amsterdam. Among her latest exhibitions was her participation at the first International symposium on Islam (Islam-Expo 2006) which was held in London and the first International Muslim Artists Exhibition, held in New Orleans in 2007.
